    is there a website that lets you see the rise n fall of interest rates on a national level or is that something you look at with banks individually?

    The reserve bank sets the rate…. But the reserve bank isn’t a bank? The big 4 can do what they want… Reserve bank rate means nothing

    So the reserve bank is independent and it sets the official interest rate… Where does the reserve bank get the money from?

    Just to clarify – the purpose of this clip was not to outline the effectiveness or appropriateness of monetary policy.

    And yes, there are times when the RBA believes the economy may need to be “slowed down”. Interestingly we are seeing the opposite at the moment given the rate cut announced yesterday.

    Should have clarified that a “slowed down” econom is not necessarily a bad thing in the long term.

    Unless you’re some sort of Keynesian, in which case you need to have a chat with Dr. Kates or Professor Davidson.
